Society’s attitude toward McCandless Quote 5

"The prevailing Alaska wisdom held that McCandless was simply one more dreamy half-cocked greenhorn who went into the country expecting to find answers to all his problems and instead found only mosquitoes and a lonely death."
Chapter 8. Page 72. Paragraph 3.

  1. Many people, especially Alaskans, thought that McCandless was a young kid who was looking for adventure. They thought he had some kind of problem whether it was with his family or friends, and was out in the back country looking for answers. McCandless didn't have any problems. He just wanted to experience his idea of life and wanted to get to know his own inner self. He died because of an easy mistake that anyone could of made. People thought that he was just like the others trying to find answers, but he was just breaking away from society. He might have died, but at least he got to live the way of life that he believed in and that he had the strive to do. McCandless might have been lonely like everyone says, but he died doing the thing he wanted to do his whole life.
